Like Monaco, this was an area literally packed with large group tours and corralled cruise groups. This time added into the mix was lots of Italian high school and college students with charcoal and canvasses in hand. They were positioned all over the square capturing the lines of the Duomo, The Bapistry, and of course the Leaning Tower of Pisa itself for school projects. The architectural interest is worth the stop, you just have to turn a blind eye to the circus-like sideshow around it.
Still find it weird to be walking through the Campo Santo, a cemetery and sanctuary that has tombstones and frescos dating back to 1278 to current day and then stepping out to the walkway to find peddlers aggressively selling knock off purses and watches….even salt and pepper shakers shaped liked the Pisa tower!
After an hour or so we all gathered back at the train station and boarded again continuing south (about an hours ride) to Florence.
