"Oh The Places You'll Go"

I love that book by Dr. Suess! If you have stumbled across this blog check out post: 01 in the blog archive to get an idea of how Bert n Lou's Excellent Adventure came to be and then just follow along. Wine, food and fun are generally the prevailing themes throughout.

Cheers and welcome to Bert and Lou's Excellent Adventure!

To backpack or roll, that is the question

Okay, with 14 days and counting til we head off on our excellent adventure, the big gamble has begun.  Do I backpack or do I roll?  Bert has borrowed a taiga backpack from my travel savvy brother Kevin for our journey.  It's pretty equipped, even has a seperate zip-off smaller backpack attached to it.  Bert is happy with his gear, it  looks rugged, tough, will hold alot, and is not sissy.  These are key factors for him.  Now me, I am not sure.  I too have been given a great backpack to use from a friend (oh by the way, thanks Heather).  It even has padded hip straps and is smaller framed for the female body but I'm not sure if it's what I'll end up taking with me.  Why?  I like to think I'm rugged and sporty, but I still can't ignore the fact I'm already top heavy and my body is doing a bit of a balancing act on my wee little ankles and small feet, adding more bulk to my midsection and backside is probably not a good idea.  Plus I plan on wearing some 'cute ' shoes for at least some of the days we're on our adventure!  Though the back pack I have to borrow is designed for a female body, mine may not be what the manufacturers brochure had in mine.  The hourglass figure of my 20's has shifted somewhat.  It is now more shaped like an upside down wine bottle.   In other words, not much difference from waist to hip on me. I can't see there being alot of  comfort with my luggage clinging to my hip and competing for space with my belly all the while being supported by my wee little feet in my hopefully cute shoes.  I'm thinking of taking my carry-on size rolling suitcase and keeping it as light as possible.  We will be moving from place to place every few days, using public transport like trains, buses and lots of walking.  I'm hoping I can fit what I need in that small suitcase, still look competent (cause I know I won't be looking sporty without the backpack) and avoid the additional muffin top profile that seems to emerge when I try the backpack on for size.
Enough said, for me, the rolling suitcase it is!  We'll keep you up to date on whose luggage system is working best and why as we travel.   So place your bets and let the games begin.
